Flinflin has a long love affair with Jeeps Willy’s. It must have probably started, as a very young boy, when discovering Tintin and the land of black gold with this surprising glossy red jeep.
Flinflins’ young sons wanted to visit the beaches of the Normandy landing.
In Arromanches, there is a small museum telling the story of the outstanding temporary harbor built by the Allied forces in 12 days by which 2 millions men and 500 000 vehicles landed.
Flinflin immediately spotted the beautiful Jeep Willys who sat in a corner of the museum and felt there was here a wonderful topic for the next Flinflins cover. The next stop in Omaha Beach should probably provide the right setting.
That evening, back home, sitting at his drawing board, Flinflin started to scribble the first sketches on a tiny A4 sheet of paper.
Should we put a view from the embrasure of a blockhouse, or would it be better to leave the Jeep thrive in full screen ?
Une très longue histoire d’amour avec la Jeep de Tintin
Confession, pour confession, Flinflin entretient une longue histoire d’amour avec les Jeeps. C’est une affaire qui doit probablement remonter à la découverte, tout jeune enfant, de Tintin au pays de l’Or noir, avec cette si surprenante jeep rouge vif en couverture.
Un beau jour, les Flinflins avaient décidé d’aller visiter les plages du débarquement en Normandie, entrainés par leurs jeunes fils.
Là bas, à Arromanches, il y a un étonnant petit musée qui raconte l’histoire exceptionnelle de ce port artificiel construit par les forces alliées en 12 jours pour y débarquer 2 millions d’hommes et 500 000 véhicules en quelques semaines.
Flinflin a immédiatement “flashé” sur la superbe Jeep Willys qui trônait dans un coin du musée, se disant qu’il tenait probablement là un excellent sujet pour sa prochaine couverture. L’escale suivante à Omaha Beach fournirait surement le décor qui s’impose.
Le soir même, attablé à sa planche à dessin, Flinflin griffonnait en quelques minutes les premières esquisses sur une modeste feuille A4.
Fallait-il choisir une vue depuis la meurtrière d’un blockhaus ou ne valait-il pas mieux laisser la Jeep s’épanouir en pleine page ?
